You know the old adage, 'Those who can't do - teach'? Well I dont exactly believe it because of awesome teachers I've known over the years, but do think there is a small ring of truth to it.  So my modus operandi for being an instructional designer is to 'Learn by Doing'. Designing learning videos, games, courses and widgets enables me to learn what can be done and how to do it. I definitely am hands-on, love to experiment and create with new software tools.

Personal

I live in Indianapolis and am married to the love of my life - see Backstory :) We have three adult daughters who along with our grandkids bring us a tremendous amount of joy.

I consider myself to be a major techno-geek and am super-proud of it! In my spare time, I'm on the computer learning new software - I call it playing, decorating our house, playing with the grands, walking, or reading on one of my electronic gadgets. This summer I'm listening to some of the classic books (The Count of Monte Cristo, Anne of Green Gables, Tom Sawyer) on my iPhone while taking my evening walks and also reading junk novels on my Kindle Fire during lull times.

Backstory

I graduated from Indiana State University in 1972 with a B.S. in elementary education and a concentration in art. I taught first grade for one year in southern Indiana; then married the love of my life and moved to Bloomington, Indiana, while he was in law school. With no teaching positions available there, I took the first job I was offered and started working for a large telecommunications company.  LIttle did I know then what unbelievably terrific matches they both would be!

During my long career, I've had the good fortune of holding various technical and management positions involving engineering design. Nine years ago I was looking for a career change and got back into the education field as a training designer focusing on technical content in an on-line format. At the same time, I enrolled in Indiana University's Instructional Systems Technology masters' program to learn design skills and got my IST masters' degree in 2010.

I am so lucky! Still with the love of my life and love my work!
